Many countries, particularly those in the Tropics, have numerous health risks. You should make yourself aware of those relevant to the areas you are visiting and consult your own Doctor before obtaining the necessary vaccinations and travelling. Some, for example Malaria, require completion of a course of treatment lasting several weeks before your departure date.
